This image was taken during summer,when sunlight shines constantly onto the continent.Itis not possible to see many features on this ice-covered landscape. The surface appears rough where the Transantarctic Mountains curvefrom the shore of the Ross Sea to the Filcher-Ronne Ice Shelf. The AntarcticPlateau in the centre of the continent is smooth, shaded only by thefaint shadow cast by clouds. The Weddell Sea is textured with chunksof sea ice. -- source link
