Everyone is probably familiar with the title “The Blue Marble”, which was the name used to describe our lovely planet after NASA’s Apollo 17 crew took the most famous picture of the Earth in 1972. NASA has always released amazing photos of Earth over the years, but the photos were always focused on the Northern or Southern Hemisphere. This photo, titled “The White Marble” was constructed using images from the Suomi NPP satellite. It shows the Earth from above the Arctic. It appears as a mass of white due to the icecaps and the surrounding swirls of clouds. Asia, Europe and Northern Africa are still visible towards the centre.
