As part of our partnership with WantedDesign and BKLYN DESIGNS for #NYCXD design week, curator, Barry Harwood will lead a Museum tour of our #BKMdecarts Collection–and participate in two panels at Wanted Design, Sunset Park– on Saturday, May 9th. Don’t worry, there will be a free shuttle running between both design fairs and the Museum. Leading up to design week, Harwood will be sharing select objects that will be featured in his tour.“Today, on the corner of Greenpoint Ave. and West St. in Greenpoint still stands the Faience Manufacturing Company’s building, which is now slated to be turned into condominiums. But from 1881-1892 Faience was a major Brooklyn maker and manufacturer. They produced some of the finest and most elaborate porcelains made in the United States at that time for an elite market (for the robber barons). Now they’re all gone, but between 1850 and World War I there were a dozen potteries in Greenpoint and they produced everything from utilitarian sanitary wares to these elaborate objects like this ewer.” – BHLearn more about #BKMdecarts objects on curator Barry Harwood’s’s #nycxd tour at the Museum, and at his @WantedDesign panel discussions, both on May 9th!Posted by Danny Tuss -- source link
