An amazing, long-sought, priceless New Years discovery, unearthed from dusty storage boxes: all
An amazing, long-sought, priceless New Years discovery, unearthed from dusty storage boxes: all 56 issues of my parents’ monthly Chinese political newsletter from the early 1970s in Buffalo, New York – a period during which my sister and I got born and survived a scene of bell-bottomed big-haired Chinese American activists and intellectuals battling out their political views in our garage where they kept all the publishing equipment. Back then, that oily ink-stained equipment was the internet and that newsletter was Chinese American blogging. The newsletter was called 水牛 Shui Nui meaning “Water Buffalo”, which combined their US hometown with a classic image of rural China. Despite being a bunch of broke immigrant academics and idealists, they somehow cranked out 56 issues in 5 years. -- source link
