hyperb0rean:We started feeding hay and straw yesterday! This is a very important and emotional moment that marks a crucial change between summer and winter farming for us. The appreciation and esteem that we have for having all this feed is not taken lightly. Growing and putting up great quality hay and straw is not only a work of art but a science, that takes a lifetime to learn and perfect. For the third year in a row, with the help and wisdom of my grandfather, we’ve been able to grow hundreds of hay bales, that will last us all winter and beginning of spring, and able to buy a few hundred more of straw from another farmer, excellent quality, so clean and fresh (pictured here). Now that our pastures have practically been grazed down and winter will not provide any new growth, we start feeding our beef cattle, sheep and horses every day, twice a day. No more “lazy days” of summer –the muscle in feeding our animals re-starts today. “Farmer’s walks” take on a greater meaning when you are carrying & lifting real bales. #bloodandsoil #farmlife #tradition -- source link
