Aquilegia x caerulea is a hybrid plant in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae), also known as columbine. Its shape is fairly unique with each of five petals morphing into long nectar spurs and backed by a ring of sepals. Fine hairs lining the edges of the flower are hard to see in traditional light but glow in UVIVF with a tinted blob the tips. The multitudes of anther are initially capped, but as they age the cap falls off revealing pollen inside. You can see this happening from the center out in the images.Wild species serve as an important source of nectar for long-tongued insects while stymying those who seek the reward without. -- source link
