millerbenny-moved:PART FOUR: COLOR BALANCEi use color balance A LOT when i color gifs & it’s mostly for color correcting, but i also use it for my vibrant colorful gifs as well to enhance the color. as always, i’ll be explaining the basics of the color balance layer as well as telling you how i personally use it.i’ll also be explaining how i went from this (the end result of part 3):to this:with just a color balance layer!by now i believe y’all now how to add adjustment layers (if not please check my past tutorials in this series!)this is what the settings look like: there are the 3 options (all of which have this same layout): midtones. this is the one i use the most. i hardly ever use shadows or highlights, but did so for the benefit of this tutorial. this is the grey slider of the levels layer! adjusting colors here adjust all the colorsshadows. this is the black slider of the levels layer, so adjusting colors for this one adjusts the colors of, you guessed it, the darker parts of the gifhighlights. the white slider! adjusting colors here adjusts the brightest parts of the gifit’s very straightforward. the color you slide closer to is the color that’ll be more apparent in the gif. i always start with the midtones since i mentioned hardly ever touching the shadow & highlight settings. since our gif is very blue-hued, i’ll move the sliders closer to the red and yellow sides.a lot of this is just sliding it around until it looks how you like (which is how a lot of the layers in photoshop are tbh) so i’ll start with red and then add some yellow: then i added a tiny bit of magenta. i find that i normally don’t adjust the magenta/green slider a whole lot, but really it all depends on the gif. this gives the gif a little bit more depth and darkness now we can head to the shadows setting. when adjusting shadows & highlights you don’t have to make big adjustments! if you go crazy with your settings your whole gif will change color. for example: these are my shadows settings: (it’s not a huge difference which is why i normally don’t bother with these two!)and again with highlights, you’ll only need small adjustments. if you go crazy (same extreme settings as the shadows one above): but of course if that’s what you’re after, by all means go for it! that’s just not what we want for this base psd coloringso my settings for highlights are as follows: and there you have it!i’ll also use the color balance layer if i want to enhance colors. i’ll use this exclusive never-before-seen gif i made the other night for an example!i used a color balance layer to enhance the yellow in the sand in the background. by adding a layer with the settings below, it brings out the reds and yellows and magentas and makes it more vibrant! (this of course changes the color of everything, so i did use a layer mask to make sure it didn’t affect his skin. if you want to know more about layer masks, check out my other coloring tutorials! i talk about them in almost every one.) and that’s about it for this layer! as always my other tutorials can be found here and if you have any questions, feel free to stop by my inbox and ask, follower or not xx -- source link
