millerbenny-moved: PART ONE: CURVESsince i do so many coloring tutorials, i figured i’d break down each of the adjustment layers i use regularly while giffing, to help y’all further understand how to use them for different types of colorings and not specifically the ones i do!i’ll be explaining the basics of the curves layer as well as showing how i went from this: to this: with just a curves layer!so there’s a couple of ways you can add a curves layer:1. when your gif layer is selected & you have the adjustments window open (if it’s not open go window > adjustments), simply click this icon:2. at the bottom of the layers window select the b&w circleand select ‘curves’with the curves layer open you see a window like this:the first thing you can do that works fine with some gifs is to click and drag up the diagonal line (dragging it down makes the gif darker)this brightens everything in the gif without altering the color:(i’ll be showing all the gifs like this, the original on the left side and the new coloring on the right so you can see the difference!)if you wanted to use this to alter the colors, you could switch from the RBG curve to either red, green, or bluethese do exactly what you’d think, enhancing the red/green/blue hues in the gif, but in order to get a good result, one would have to alter all three (or at least two. very rarely using one fixes the problem) if you don’t, these are the results moving the curve up:the best way, i find, to adjust these layers is to use one of my photoshop best friends, the white eyedropper tool:i talk about this is nearly every one of my coloring tutorials because it’s honestly a life saver. with it selected, you click on the part of the gif you want to be the whitest. if you select a cooler hued area, it’ll alter the warmer hues and vice versa. for example, if i select this part of the sky, a bluer/greener spot:we get this result:if i had selected this part of the bus, slightly more yellow:it’ll adjust the blues/greens more (in this case all three are adjusted about the same amount)for this gif i knew i wanted more red in his face, so i’m going to go back to the first one where i selected part of the sky. what i’ll do is go into the red, green, and blue settings and adjust them either more or less from what the eyedropper adjusted until i like how it looks. then i’ll return to the RGB curve to further brighten it.i added quite a bit more reda little more greenand less blueand then moved the RGB curve up until i liked the amount of brightness it addedi’m sure there’s a lot more to the curves layer than this, but this is how i use it and find it the most helpful for brightening gifs and doing color correction. i really hope this helps clear things up!as always my other tutorials can be found here and if you have any questions, feel free to stop by my inbox and ask, follower or not xx -- source link
