mantidprincess:sonofpeleus:dykeprivilege:paraminttea:As criticisms of the comic the first image originates from are being passed around again, I noticed that the phenomena I’ve written about for the latter is a trend; in which Erika Moen actively portrays the discomfort her objectification causes, just to brush it off, smugly invalidating the feelings of her target to further objectify and dehumanize them.It disturbs me that she’s still passed around as a sex positive icon, rather than someone whose behavior is disturbingly similar to that of a sexual predator. This is why I don’t trust sex positivity, the peddling of adopting patriarchal attitudes toward women as empowerment. Street harassment isn’t cute, it makes women feel unsafe. Telling men or women that they are being harassed because “the are hot” can reinforce trauma and is in essence victim blaming.this criticism is completely valid, but i would also like to point out that the trans men comic is something that she has written a public apology for. whether one accepts that apology or not is their own decision, of course, just putting the information out there. (which isn’t to say that makes her actions okay, or makes either comic okay; it absolutely doesn’t.)idk, i don’t really care about her apology either way, like it’s better that she apologized than if she hasn’t, but for me at least it’s less about her fetishizing trans men in particular and more about the fact that she thinks sexual harassment is cute and funny and cares more about her own sexual satisfaction than other people’s consent, and her attitudes toward trans men is only a symptom of that problem rather than the entirety of the problem?like yeah she apologized for a single specific action but her pattern of behavior strikes me as predatory and is really unsettling absolutely! i agree with that and i’m not by any means saying that an apology for one action makes her other gross behavior okay, i’m just putting the apology out there so people can be fully informed but i absolutely agree that her treating sexual harassment casually in both comics shown is a problem that isn’t addressed in the apology and absolutely is a warranted criticism. i’m not trying to defend her here by any means. -- source link
