@jim_white_engraving・・・A couple of years ago I picked up a nice Browning HiPower and decided to make a version of the Renaissance model. Working from some very clear photos of an original, I drew up the pattern you see here. Typical Fabrique National engraving, this leafy scroll design came from Felix Funken, a master engraver who started FN’s first engraving school. The original Browning Renaissance models had plastic imitation mother-of-pearl grips. I’ve seen pictures of later versions with carved walnut instead. I decided to do carved walnut on this one because I’m not convinced the plastic mop grips add much class! I’m not trying to create a counterfeit or exact copy anyway. I should have installed different sights - the little factory ones of that period aren’t worth much. I might just install a larger rear sight that would fit the standard dovetail, then mill the front to accept a better one also.
