(Images from Elizabeth R, 1971) Elizabeth’s chief horror in life was death, which so constantly surrounded her; she even refused to name her heir to the last, saying “I do not choose that my grave should be dug while I am still alive.”In the days and hours leading up to Elizabeth’s death, she refused to resign herself to her deathbed, standing for hours or sitting in a chair.
