valinaraii:Favila I, king of Asturias and son of the legendary Pelagius, only reigned for two years and according to the cronists, he didn’t do anything worthy to be preserved for History. Actually the most known fact about him is that in 739 he was killed by a bear (While hunting? In a sort of rite? It is not known). The reliefs of the capitals in the monastery of San Pedro de Vilanueva, in Cangas de Onís (Asturias, Spain) shows the unfortunate king leaving his palace for the hunt, kissing his wife Froiluba goodbye and the posterior fight with the bear.Images by Ecelan, Wikimedia Commons. -- source link
