Gold penny of Henry III, 1257 - 1258This gold penny of Henry III is extremely rare and is only one of eight that is still known to exist. The reason for this is that gold coinage was not regular in this period and this fresh attempt to introduce it again was unpopular. The coins were protested against and as such, were only circulated for around a year. Because of this it is likely that many were melted down after they were put out of use. -- source link
