TW for domestic violenceR&B Group Jodeci Makes a Comeback With Anti-Domestic Violence Song‘Nobody Wins,’ the quartet’s first release in nearly 20 years, tackles what happens when people stop talking and start hitting.“It’s been nearly 20 years since R&B group Jodeci had a hit record, and although the quartet is best known for its sexually suggestive love songs, their latest release is a far cry from the group’s “Freek-n-You” days. On Monday, the former kings of 1990s soul music made their comeback official with “Nobody Wins,” a powerful track that tackles the issue of domestic violence. On the song’s chorus, the quartet sings, “Nobody wins when we fight, fuss and argue/ Nobody wins, we say we leaving but we never do.” Artist B.o.B. collaborated with the group on the song. “You can see the pain we entertain when disagreements turn into blame,” he raps. The lyric video, which Jodeci posted on its YouTube page on Monday, features scenes portrayed by actors, as well as a chilling snippet of the infamous footage of Jenay Rice walking into an elevator with her then fiancé, Ray Rice. What’s nice to see is that Jodeci isn’t content to just sing about the issue. The video displays the National Domestic Violence Hotline phone number several times, as well as the website address for the Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community and No More, an organization that works to end domestic violence and sexual assault.“We aren’t immune to issues that are important in our community,” Jodeci member K-Ci said in a press release. “Domestic violence has always been an issue in relationships, but lately it’s been brought to the front of our community consciousness.”Read the full piece and watch the video here (Major TW for depiction of domestic abuse / violence) -- source link
