There will always be a girl who is less sober, less secure, with less friends walking in a darker part of town. I want her safe just as much as I want me safe.THE BOLDEDThis is a ridiculous conclusion. Using common sense is not putting the chance of rape on someone else. When you don’t walk down a dark alley alone at night to avoid robbery or murder that isn’t you wishing robery or death on others thats common sense. What else are people supposed to do to prevent rape? Do you really think rapists care that what they’re doing is wrong? They know that, they don’t care. The fact that there is a girl out there that doesn’t take judo classes does not mean you should not. You should always know self defence.I cannot believe this post exists and yet, here it is. Again.@ all the people agreeing above: did you not stop for a moment to think about what this post seems to be insinuating? Rapists, murderers and thieves can’t be eradicated, because rape, murder, and theft are not taught behaviours. There will always be bad people doing bad things, and that’s not because of any sort of social conditioning. It’s just the way the world is. No matter what modern feminism tells you, the world does not condone those things. Rapists, murderers and thieves already know that what they’re doing is wrong. They don’t care. Being told that what they’re doing is wrong will not stop them. So, if you cannot eradicate these crimes, and refuse to accept tips for avoiding becoming victims of these crimes because “there will always be another girl”, then what, exactly, is the proposal here?? Take one for the team??? Cause that’s what this always sounds like to me.The world is not a completely safe place. It never will be. This, unfortunately, is an inevitable consequence of humans being… human, and of evil and insane humans just existing. No amount of campaigning or socialisation will ever make this world completely safe. Just learn some self defence, ffs.I’ve seen this post before but I just can’t believe these people. Like do they really think we’re ever going to live in a world where we’ve eliminated 100% of violent crime? Do they really think making it as hard as possible for criminals to commit crimes is somehow immoral? I don’t understand this logic at all. It’s a textbook perfect solution fallacy. Anyway, here’s wonderwall a comic I drew about it.“If you tell people to look both ways before crossing the street, you are really telling the driver to hit someone else.”“If you tell someone to lock their doors at night, your really telling the robber to break into someone else’s home.”“If you tell someone to learn self defense, youre really telling the assaulter to attack someone else.”The argument was bad from the start. They usually respond to the theft one, if at all, with “stop equating people to objects!” Those people who do that clearly don’t understand the concept of an illustration or allegory. Modern activism hinges on maximizing the concept of victimhood. Self-actualizaion, self-defense, and empowerment run counter to that goal. The person who needs to be taught to not rape someone else is the person who will not listen to a lesson on why you shouldn’t rape someone else. -- source link
