The assassination of Czar Alexander II in 1881 (painting from late 19th century). The bombing of Alexander’s carriage was one of the first acts of modern terrorism as a group called the People’s Will, dissatisfied with Alexander’s slow pace of reform, killed the king. Alexander’s bulletproof carriage allowed him to survive a first bomb, but he was killed by a second explosive device as he stepped from the damaged carriage (as shown above) -- source link
