interretialia:SASACIMACIEARMATURA QUINQUIPLEXMakieSasakiTrouper with Five ApparatusTranslation Notes:Sasaci Macie is simply the Japanese name Sasaki Makie Latinized.The two most obvious translations of Armatura Quinquiplex, “fivefold equipment" and “fivefold person who is about to equip,“ make no sense here.  According to the first translation, armatura means “equipment."  That word is also used to refer to a troop of gladiators.  The phrase levis armatura means “light-armed troops."  According to the second translation, armatura is the future active participle of armare, “to equip,” and so armatura means “about to equip.“  Quinquiplex in either case means “fivefold” or “consisting of five things.“  But there is a way to make sense of Makie’s title.  Troop can also be used to mean troup, and a person who performs in a troup (on the analogy of the gladiatorial troops) is a trouper.  Since these pactio phrases are in fact titles that refer to the person who appears on the cards, this armatura should be construed to refer to Makie herself and not to a group.  This is why I am construing armatura to mean “trouper."  Since she is holding five different kinds of apparatus (ball, hoop, ribbon, baton, rope), I am taking quinquiplex to mean “with five apparatus.”Card from here. -- source link
