The Tweeter and the TikToker are both Iraqi. People in the notes completely missing the point that American veterans’ varied perspectives over the last century have been placed front and center time and time again over the actual state of the countries America invades and pillages. Like I know you guys find these horrors so completely intangible because they’re in other countries and the only thing you have to deal with is seeing PTSD or disabled veterans’ lack of support, but American invaders murder en masse for fun sometimes. They’ve erased cities like Mosul off the map, and killed millions in both Afghanistan and Iraq the span of a few years. Your country’s propaganda has shaped the way the Middle East is viewed not just stereotypically but culturally and geographically (Afghanistan and Pakistan are not part of the Middle East and their populations are not Arab either). And so many of the notes are still all about “but soldiers are tricked and brainwashed!” Yes. But can we talk about the millions of people dead and displaced in the homeland without being interrupted or not? -- source link
