After logging more than 8,000 hours and nearly 17,000 cycles of ground and flight testing, the latest-generation Boeing 737 MAX, powered by a pair of advanced LEAP-1B engines has made its maiden flight. The CFM LEAP is the world’s first jet engine to include 3D-printed fuel nozzles and engine shroud made from tough, lightweight materials called ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). While providing double-digit improvements in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the engine reduces noise and emissions. Read more about CFM LEAP and it’s first flight on GE Reports. -- source link
