Made it to my top destination of this whole 3-month adventure, the one spot I’ve been really looking forward to - El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. From Puerto Princessa I took 6-hour Roro Bus (480 Php) to El Nido. It was a scenic ride on a very windy road, I was glad I had motion sines meds with me. On the bus I met 3 lovely American travelers, one couple and a single. We instantly became friends and decided to go on a boat tour the following day. I didn’t have an advance reservation in El Nido assuming I’ll walk around and find something cheap. Not this time…. It’s the hight of the tourist season right now in El Nido and the accommodation prices are through the roof. I found one and only hostel on the beach called La Banane and this shithole is the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed at and it was expensive!!! Fortunately I met 2 lovely Russian girls from Vladivostok and I ended up stretching my hammock on their resort property for a nominal fee. My cool hammock has a mosquito net built into it so I slept pretty well right on the beach. Tomorrow the girls leave so I have to find a new place for my hammock. At first El Nido town was disappointing to me. There’s loud music, tons of restaurants, motorbikes, and green goo algae in the water on the town’s beach. It wasn’t what I I envisioned. The boat tour A the following day changed my mind about this place. I went with the 3 Americans and 2 Russians and we had the most awesome time! The tour was from 9 am to 5 pm with a killer lunch and great snorkeling. It was so chill! I also visited Los Cabanos beach and it was exactly what I imagined Palawan would look like! I’m going there tomorrow to bum around the resorts there and see if they’ll let me stretch my hammock there tomorrow night. Wish me luck! -- source link
