And here’s Part 4 of my story “The Priggish Pro-Position”:“Status, Bimbo,” the Captain said.“We’ve broken orbit, sir,” Bimbo said. “Set your course, Bimbo,” the Captain ordered. “Bearing 35, mark 2! Let’s get some space between us and that hand.”“It is not a physical extremity, Captain,” Oh said. “It is pure energy.”“Oh,” the Captain said. “It’s not important.”“Accuracy is always important, Captain,” Oh said.“Momentum drive engaged, Captain,” Bimbo said.The engines growled, but an alarm sounded louder.“Warning! Warning! Warning!” the computer balled.“Shields are up, Captain,” Oh exclaimed. “What’s the problem, Oh?” the Captain growled, hitting a button and silencing the alarm.“There’s something emerging from the planet,” Oh said.“Let’s see that rear view, Oh,” the captain said.The view on the screen changed, showing the planet. The hand was gone, but something else was emerging. “That’s…” Bimbo gasped. “It’s a projection of energy…” Oh said. “It’s an arrow,” the Captain said.The pulsing green arrow grew and filled their screen.“I tried to warn you,” the computer said.“Impact in ten seconds,” Oh said.“Hard to starboard, Bimbo,” the Captain yelled. “Nine seconds,” Oh said.“Hard to starboard,” Bimbo said.The ship lurched, and up suddenly became down as the gravity lagged behind the change in momentum. “Ohhhh,” the Captain gasped, as her restraints bit into her skin.“Captain?” Oh said, dangling from her monitor.
