If you read yesterday’s post, here’s how the first chapter of my story, THE PRIGGISH PRO-POSITION, goes on. Today is Part 2: “Captain,” the intercom buzzed.Captain Mercury sat up, pulling her personal transcriber from between her legs. She switched off the connectivity pulse. “Oh,” she sighed. “What is it?”“We will be entering the KISS-32 Quadrant in minutes, Captain,” Oh said.“Thank you, Commander,” Captain Mercury said. “I’ll be on the bridge in a moment.”The Captain quickly adjusted her uniform, pulled up her panties, and made her way to the bridge. When she stepped from the hyper-lift, she felt the Vibro-drive wind down.“Status report,” she said, striding through the bridge and rounding around her Captain’s chair. She sat, pulling the stabilizer between her legs. Commander Oh looked up from her monitor. “We have just emerged from Wobble Space, Captain,” Oh said. “What’s our position, Bimbo?” Captain Mercury asked.“Entering a standard orbit around the third planet, Captain,” Bimbo said.Lieutenant Bimbo toggled the ship’s joystick. Bimbo was the best pilot in the fleet, and the maneuver was carried out with perfect precision. “On screen,” Captain Mercury said.The screen came to life, showing a blue and green world. “Initial reports?” the Captain said. “Deep probes show that this is the only habitable planet in the quadrant, Captain,” Oh said, without looking up from the viewfinder. “It’s class Mmmm, and very ordinary.”“Another routine survey,” the Captain said, checking the reading on her chair.“What’s that?” Bimbo stammered.She was normally the coolest customer, but her voice sounded strained.
