Leaf-shaped bronze (copper alloy) sword from the Late Bronze Age,found in the Thames.During the Bronze and Iron Ages, the Thames was a popular place tomake offerings and sacrifices, especially between Battersea andWaterloo. This part of the Thames may have been an important rivercrossing point, a sacred place, or an important political boundary.Ancient skulls have also been found in the river. The weapons andother objects deposited here may have accompanied the river burial ofthe dead; they may have been spoils of war dedicated to the gods byvictorious warriors; it may have been simply a display of wealth andpower. -- source link
