TW for revenge porn, online harassmentRevenge pornographer demands that Google erase his past, feels violated“The irony tables have turned on revenge porn creep Craig Brittain, who is now petitioning Google to remove mentions of his past as a profiteer off of explicit pictures of women obtained without their consent.According to Ars Technica, the former owner of the site IsAnybodyDown.com is petitioning Google to remove 23 links leading to news stories detailing his exploits of publishing photos of women primarily submitted by bitter exes. He’s invoking the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) in a complaint against Google, and the search engine is taking his bid about as seriously as you’d expect.According to the DMCA takedown notice, Brittain claims that his search history contains “…[u]nauthorized use of photos of me and other related information. Unauthorized use of statements and identity related information. Unauthorized copying of excerpts from isanybodydown.com. Using photos which are not ‘fair use.‘”In summation, Brittain is petitioning Google to remove information about him that he deems embarrassing and/or compromising. He’s hoping that the search engine will appease his need for privacy and protect him from having unsavory information about his past without his consent. Interesting move for a guy who once posted that his revenge porn sites trumped all the others because the online network offered “a higher level of hatred.” You gotta love when online bullies can’t take a mere fraction of what they dish out.Unfortunately for Brittain, Google’s documentation of his escapades as an online revenge porn magnate, as Ars Technica so astutely points out, is of “fair use and general First Amendment principles are on Google’s and the media’s side.” However, we do appreciate the audacity of the former revenge pornagrapher turned GamerGate defender (ugh) for thinking that Google has some kind of moral obligation to keep us from finding articles like this one, this one , and this one.”Source Question: why is he not in jail? His site explicitly promoted the stalking, harassment and privacy violation of real women. He can hang out with fellow misogynist and evil-doer Hunter Moore. -- source link
