dduane:vulgarweed:unwrapping:Age Ranges of Tumblr’s Global Audience:Tumblr sees about 150 million global unique visitors monthly. comScore, an Internet analytics firm, averaged Tumblr’s age ranges over the first quarter of 2014 for both Dashboard and blog network traffic worldwide:Ages 13 to 17: 15%Ages 18 to 34: 41%Ages 35 to 54: 29%Ages 55 and up: 15%“People are often really surprised to note that we have the same percentage of 55-plus-year-olds as we do 13-to-17-year-olds,” said Danielle Strle (strle), Tumblr’s director of product for community and content, in an NPR webinar. “But over half of our audience is solidly in the 13-to-34 demographic.”70% of Tumblr is between 18 and 54.The remaining 30% is divided between teenagers and people over 55. (and yes, I realize that 13 -17 is only a 4-year-spread while 55 - dead is a much larger one).Teenagers do not dominate Tumblr by numbers. Not even close. 85% of Tumblr users are 18 or over. 85%!I’m reblogging this related to wank in X-FILES, of all fucking fandoms (a show that first aired 22 years ago, that was never aimed at kids, and still has a lot of original fans still around). It holds true across the board, though. Tumblr is NOT a teen-majority space; never has been and probably never will be. Certain fandoms aimed at kids might be kid-majority, and there is definitely a case for keeping fandoms for shows aimed at children child-friendly – but fandom as a whole on Tumblr, especially for adult-aimed shows like X-Files and Sherlock and Hannibal (which have no significant kid characters and were never marketed to children or teens)? Definitely not. The adults will not be leaving. We get to have things that WE like too.Online fandom is a multigenerational space. Always has been and always will be. Cheerfully holding the space of “55-Dead”. :) -- source link
