HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROWS by Erin A. CraigRating: 4.5/5I’m not usually one for YA these days but I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. The horror aspects were in equal parts deliciously creepy and spellbindingly grotesque. The novel was also immensely atmospheric. I tend to automatically have an affinity for books set by the ocean and this was no exception, I could practically taste salt on my tongue. My biggest dealbreaker in YA tends to be how much the romance takes away from the storyline. While it didn’t wow me in any way and evolved at a pretty rapid pace, I still though the author did a good job of including it without making it deduct from the rest of the mystery of Annaleigh and her dancing, dying sisters. I also love fairy tale retellings, and I don’t think I’ve ever actually encountered a version of Twelve Dancing Princesses, let alone one so cleverly weaved into a throughly original premiseSONG PAIRING: Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Lorde -- source link
