follower-of-liliana:A journey through mechanicsIf you’re a longtime follower, you should probably know that two of my favorite mechanics of all time are morph and suspend. In my 4ish years as a custom card designer, I tried to branch out and come up with my own mechanics to capture the essence of mischief and mystery as well.Preparation was among the first mechanics I’ve ever made, the Dimir mechanic for my Fall of Ravnica project. It’s simple and deceivingly powerful as it basically allows you to pay mana in advance. Two failsafes I’ve established is A) you can to exile your cards at sorcery speed, and B) to put Preparation it on mostly reactive instant and sorceries both for flavor reasons, and to prevent making Dimir a hyper aggro/ tempo guild. Later on, I tried to make a similar creature mechanic called ambush t was a bit weird, kinda like a weak variation of Obzedat, Ghost Council. While I was digging up my personal file for old designs I came across it and I reworked it drastically to the point it unintentionally became a hybrid of morph and suspend! That’s it for today folks! Feedback is always welcome! I know both mechanics are on the complex side but I can only see them from my own perspective…And I love what I see :pTagging @imakethecard to add Conceal and Preparation to the custom mechanics library, and @flavoracle to come up with a snarky flavor text for Outplan. You got to be in shape should the Flavoracle project resurfaces!!Of the two mechanics, Preparation is my favorite. I was a little underwhelmed by it at first, but the more I think about it, the more potential I see. I’m less fond of Ambush as it seems to simply be Morph with less functionality since you don’t get a 2/2 creature to play with. Regarding flavor text for Outplan, here’s mine: “If you’re only two steps ahead, you’re already three steps behind.” Thanks for sharing the cool custom cards @follower-of-liliana!! Your designs always inspire me to try making my own! :D -- source link
