Busts of Akhenaten and Nefertiti by Thutmose, the royal sculptor.Thutmose, also known as “The King’s Favourite and Master of Works, the Sculptor Thutmose” (also spelled Djhutmose, Thutmosis, and Thutmes), was an Ancient Egyptian sculptor. He flourished around 1350 BC, and is thought to have been the official court sculptor of the Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten in the latter part of his reign. He was the sculptor of the famous polychrome bust of Nefertiti. Archaeologists have found his sculpting studio at Amarna. What Thutmose created was nothing like the rest of the art in the region. His portraits were startlingly realistic when compared to the stereotyped and stylized representations common in ancient Egyptian art.1-2. Akhenaten and Nefertiri3-7. Akhenaten -- source link
