In Greek Mythology, the Μοιραι (Moirai) were the goddesses of fate who personified the inescapable destiny of men. They controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal from birth to death. Clotho, the spinner, selected the thread ; Lachesis, the drawer of lots, measured it ; and Atropos, the inevitable, cut this thread to signify the end of a person’s existence. (x) -- source link
