The media has peddled a divisive narrative of Asian American support for Peter Liang that falsely pits Asian and Black communities on opposite sides of the fight for police accountability. Most of the media coverage has also focused exclusively on Chinese Americans ignoring the experiences of those in the community who are most affected by police brutality. To reframe the conversation, we asked several Asian Americans why they are demanding #Justice4AkaiGurley and all victims of police violence. This video centers the voices of Asian Americans who embody multiple identities including youth, elders, immigrants, public housing residents, Black Asians, queer identifying, and working-class folks who are calling to end unfair and over policing.
