This week marks the celebration of the Jewish holiday of Passover (Pesach). The Passover meal held each year in Jewish homes commemorates the deliverance of the Children of Israel from Egyptian slavery, as described in the biblical Book of Exodus. After the Exodus from Egypt the Children of Israel built the Tabernacle (Mishkan), a sacred tent to house God’s presence with them. The Feast of Passover was celebrated at the Tabernacle soon after it was first built.During the Seder, a special family meal, the biblical events of the Exodus are retold with this prayer from the Haggadah: “This is the bread of poverty which our forefathers ate in the land of Egypt. Let all who are hungry enter and eat; let all who are needy come to our Passover feast. This year we are here; next year may we be in the Land of Israel. This year we are slaves; next year may we be free.”This scale model of the Tabernacle of Israel at Glencairn Museum was built over a ten-year period, beginning in 1921. -- source link
