021 The Daleks’ Masterplan by Terry NationIllustrated by thewindflowermadegreenagain“This is the story of The Daleks’ Master Plan, told from Steven’s perspective. In my opinion, the most important aspect of DMP is the deaths, so this is what I’ve tried to focus on. Apologies for the length, and well done to anyway who reads the whole thing. (N.B. for Steven and Dodo, the setting story takes place just before The Savages. For the later Doctor, it takes place between "The Angels Take Manhattan” and “The Snowmen”. That will make more sense once you’ve read.)“In the year 4000, the Daleks conspire to conquer the Solar System. Their scheme involves treachery at the highest levels and a weapon capable of destroying the very fabric of time. Only the Doctor and his friends can prevent catastrophe — and there is no guarantee they will escape with their lives…STORY FACTS ~Most of this story is MISSING. Only parts 2, 5 and 10 survive. This story is a sequel to Mission to the Unknown. It features the First Doctor and Steven Taylor and Katarina as the companions. Sara Kingdom plays a "one-off companion”, something that would become common in the post 2005 series. This is another ‘Travelling Quest’ story by Terry Nation.Katarina is the first companion to be killed off while travelling with the Doctor. Sara Kingdom becomes the second in this story too. This story features a return of The Monk, another rogue Time Lord, and the first individual villain to make a return in a story. This story stars Nicholas Courtney as Space Security Agent Bret Vyon. He would later be best known for playing the Brigadier. This is the longest, undisputed story at 12 parts. The Trial of a Time Lord is longer, but there is debate as to whether it is one story or several.Part 7 aired on Christmas Day and was written to be comedic and not have much relevance to the plot. It also featured the First Doctor wishing everyone at home a “Happy Christmas” to camera. The Doctor meets Charlie Chaplin and Bing Crosby in this story (neither played by their real selves, but both were alive when this story was made.)The Doctor is artificially aged by 100 years. This might be one of several explanations for his regeneration in The Tenth Planet. -- source link
