Antarctica from spaceThe icy continent is the single largest chunk of cryosphere on Earth, being covered both with a mile thick cap of ice and surrounded with a rhythmically growing and shrinking cape of sea ice that breathes with the passing of the seasons. This composite image (using 2 datasets) was taken at the maximal extent in the depths of late winter in September 2005 by NASA’s Aqua satellite and compiled at NASA’s Goddard Flight Centre. The composite is adjusted to show what Antarctica would look like if the entire continent were lit by sunlight.LozImage credit: NASAhttp://twistedsifter.com/2013/12/nasa-image-puts-size-of-antarctica-into-perspective/http://sploid.gizmodo.com/oh-wow-antarctica-looks-so-incredibly-huge-from-space-1470156836 -- source link
