This sabre was almost certainly made in Egypt, which was under Mamluke rule for the majority of the middle ages and the beginning of the early modern period, until 1517.In 1517 the Ottoman empire completed their invasion of Egypt which had begun the year prior. That year, and the years following, they would extend their influence over most of coastal North Africa.So, if the sword was made in the first 17 years of the 16th century, it is likely Mamluke. Otherwise, it is almost certainly Ottoman.A pity we don’t have a more precise date for it. -- source link
