petercmartucci:Three small Ships, the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery arrived at Jamestown, Virginia in 1607 and England had its first Colony. Many did not survive the first year. They sent gentlemen, not the farmers and fishermen that would have sustained the Colony. Stephanie’s ancester, James Watkins, a soldier, arrived with the first supply boat in 1608 and was Captain John Smith’s right hand man on his voyage of Discover of the Chesapeake bay. Watkin’s point on the Chesapeake is named in his honor. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. WHEN WE THINK OF THE HARDSHIP WE HAD THIS YEAR, THINK HOW HARD IT WAS FOR THEM TO ENDURE GREATER HARDSHIPS THAN WE FACE. BE THANKFUL THEY DID ENDURE AS WE WILL. -- source link
