This isn’t an accident, and they often use red light; as the wavelength of light gets longer, it is harder and harder for humans to see detail. Further, we can’t see as well in red light since we didn’t evolve to see in such conditions. Thus, red light effectively “covers up” small defects and marks on your skin.
