PROPMAKER : Hellhammer Design & Cosplay (Syracuse, NY)Hello there, I am Gregory R. Baron, owner and operator of Hellhammer Design + Cosplay. I have been creating and making foam fabrication since 2014. I opened my business in 2018.I had started foam fabrication because I love making something from nothing. taking a flat piece of foam and making it into a helmet, armor ,or prop it so much fun and amazing to achieve.I also started this to relieve stress that was currently going on at the time. It was a great outlet to let everything go. I do this foam fabrication as a full time business, shipping all over the world. anniegraves.cosplay next to image of Vasquez from Aliens (1986) The M56 smart gun from Aliens was a project that I had discussed with Annie Graves cosplay for at least two years. It always has been a dream cosplay of hers that I saw a good opportunity to show her what I can do. So I set out collecting all sorts of reference images that I could use to complete the task. Around 90 photos I had on my computer from my own to ones she had collected as well, a lot of the photos were from back in the 80s.I knew I had to fabricate about 80% of the build. Using a photo and a program called Post Razor I scanned the image full size (4’ 3") and pieced the pages together. I used a couple of different thickness of craft foams, bits and pieces of plastic I had laying around the house. Skill and techniques that I gathered over the years. I also had done the same with the headpiece and the shoulder lamp. Making everything from scratch. The drive I had to complete this project amazing. It took two and a half weeks to complete. During the whole time I had sent progress photos everyday to her. She was truly happy with all of it. By the way, I keep my customers posted on everything I do and I connect with them. Referring to all reference images and making sure that every bolt, nut and piece was in there proper place. I wanted this to be 100% perfect for her. She even taught me the value of getting things right the first time. There were a couple parts I redid because they were not correct. It was a great learning experience and I made a super great friend. Bringing the M56 Smart Gun to life was actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. With the picture I used for a base to trace onto several pieces of foam then fabricating the rest was pretty cut and dry. Using the reference pictures I had I could go through from top to bottom every inch of the M56 Smart Gun which was not and easy task. The same goes for the Shoulder lamp and Head piece. It was all right there to use. I had ordered a bike flashlight for the shoulder lamp, and the Smart Gun itself I had a Bluetooth speaker inside the ammo drum that she could hook up to her phone to make the noise of the gun shooting. She had ordered an actual part that was used on the Smart Gun from the movie. It was the handle assembly from a motorcycle that she had found on Ebay, she had shipped it to me and I incorporated it into the build .Was a bit challenging but it worked just right.Another challenging part was during the whole build was making it come apart in three sections for shipping purposes. Making this M56 Smart Gun was truly a wonderful opportunity to show my talents as a Foam Fabricator.I love my job and what I do. It can get a little hectic at times with multiple commissions due at the same time but its a challenge and I love a good challenge. The people I have met overtime has truly been a blessing. The Cosplay community is a great community to have dealt with, I am so lucky. Find out more at Hellhammer Design & Cosplay -- source link
