With Disguise: Masks and Global African Art just a week away, we’re looking at—and through—masks from the Brooklyn Museum’s African Art collection. The masks made by Bwa and Nuna artists in Burkina Faso combine bold geometric forms and bright colors with stylized elements of often multiple animals. Masks such as this embodied spirits that played important roles in daily life, and would have performed at key events (funerals, initiations, harvests) in the life of their community.Follow curator Kevin Dumouchelle (@BKLN_AfrPac) on Instagram and Twitter to go Behind-the-Masks!Posted by Kevin D.
