fandomsandfeminism:xiaosan:laubhaufen:gayspacenerds:dollymacabre:I AM READY.tHIS YEAR IS GONNA BE SO GAYYay!I’M SO PUMPED FOR JULYPraise the old gods and the new. We don’t actually…. know this, though?Like this is presumption on top of supposition. The original manga IS pretty LGBTQ friendly. And anime imports are less likely to be censored these days, so if those elements of the manga appear in the new anime, it is true that they are less likely to be censored. But like the “Likely to feature” isn’t necessarily true, because the biggest LGBT characters are Uranus and Neptune, who don’t appear until the third arc. So if the new anime is a one-off or single season story, it’s actually likely we won’t get to them at all. And if we do get to them we have no indication of whether they will be any more out than they were 20 years ago. We actually know nothing about how their sexuality is going to be handled or if they will even appear in this adaptation. And even if they will, that’s likely a couple years from now in later seasons, not this summer (unless the anime is going to cover all five arcs in one long season - which, mayyybeee??)At the moment, aside from a few very vague comments, we have no evidence of what will and won’t be in the anime and when.I got excited when I saw the headline because I thought maybe someone had said something new, or that one of the creative team had a good history with LBGTQIA characters that would indicate that track record would be included here. But this news is essentially “Sailor Moon had LGBTQ characters in it 20 years ago!" -Which I love about it! And I hope more people discover it! But we don’t know anything about the new anime, so the likelihood of those characters appearing this time around is up in the air. -- source link
