An early 14th century illumination from Codex Manesse depicting Hohenstaufen ruler Henry VI, who was the most powerful European monarch of late 12th century. Among his titles were for example Holy Roman emperor (1191- 1197), king of Germany (1168-1197) and King of Italy (1186-1197).In 1194 Henry enlarged his realms when he dethroned last Norman king of Sicily.
