useless-catalanfacts:Inside the Crown Hall of the Borgia’s palace (Palau Ducal) in Gandia, Valencian Country. The Borgia was one of the most powerful families in Renaissance Crown of Aragon and Italy, most well-known internationally for three of its members who became Pope Callixtus III (1378-1458) and Pope Alexander VI (1431-1503) and Saint Francis of Borgia (1510-1572). The family were the Dukes of Gandia, where they had this palace. This room’s name comes from the double crown that decorates the coffered ceiling. This double-crown emblem was used by Alexander VI as a symbol of his papal coronation, and his descendants later adopted it as their own. On the upper frieze one can see the Duke’s wise advice to his offspring, well preserved, taken from the epistles of St. Paul and translated as: “And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.”Photos and info source: palauducal.com -- source link
