Back in 1940, Churchill had said said that future generations would look back and say “this was their finest hour”. And he was right.Today, we are all products of the Second World War. not just culturally, but literally, in the sense that nearly everybody born in the past sixty years probably owes their very existance to some chance meeting of their parents or grandparents caused by the social disruption of the war or their aftermath. For the ageing generation that lived such an incredible sixty years, it is no wonder that it has continued to be the defining experinces of their lives. But for the rest of us, it is perhaps time let it go.
