my18thcenturysource:vincents-crows:My 1730’s waistcoat is technically finished but I’ve decided I need to add about 14 more buttons, which I can’t do yet because I’m out of town and have no spare fabric or molds with me. Here are some non-fancy photos! It’s a trial run in poly/cotton brocade, and I need to make a slight adjustment to the pattern before I do another one in my nice silk. I intended to do a fair amount of machine sewing on this, but ended up only putting 3 small lines of machine stitching in it.ALLTHEBUTTONS!The pattern of the brocade is gorgeous! And it looks so good while worn!Thank you! You’ll be pleased to hear that the good silk waistcoat will have EVEN MORE buttons, and they’ll be even smaller than these ones! It’s going to be made from a 70 year old heavy Japanese silk brocade with a large asymmetrical pattern, and the yardage is really narrow, so I want to do the best I possibly can with it. Out of all the materials in my stash it’s by far the closest to the fabric they had in the 18th century. Also it was about -8 when I got my uncle to take those first 2 photos, but the lighting was much better outside, so out I went. -- source link
