Lá an Dreoilín: Wren Day is celebrated in Ireland on December 26th, St. Stephen’s Day. In the past, children would kill a wren and carry it from house to house, singing a song at each door to raise funds for the bird’s funeral. Sometimes those who gave money were given a feather from the wren for good luck. Today, wrenboys capture the bird live and carry it through town, singing their song and collecting money for an evening dance. -- source link
