tobitastic:This is such a common dynamic in trans women’s circles. No bananas at community events - they don’t get eaten. But please folks, you can eat a banana! Just don’t eat 5 a day or something ridiculous like that. Besides, orange juice has more potassium than bananas. Potatoes have about as much or more potassium than bananas. It’s just that some day somebody on tv said “Oh bananas! They’re high in potassium!” and suddenly that’s the only thing folks thing of. Many other fruits or vegetables are high in potassium. And that’s okay. You don’t need to have zero potassium in your diet, that would be dangerous too. Just don’t ever take potassium supplements or salt substitutes and don’t binge on high potassium foods or make them a daily staple of your diet.PS you might have also noticed difficulty staying hydrated while on spiro. The common solution is to increase your electrolytes with Gatorade or something. That’s got potassium too! And it’s necessary. Getting a good balance of potassium/sodium in your system is vital to retaining hydration. If you’re getting really dehydrated despite drinking plenty of water, you might have too little potassium (or sodium or other electrolytes) -- source link
