18mr:By now, you’ve probably read about how the Thai fishing industry’s backbone is trafficked migrant slave labor. The Guardian’s report is harrowing and points to a systemic problem where the government does nothing, captains make money, and people seeking opportunity to escape poverty get trafficked. The fruit of that slave labor is making it back to us—but that also means we have a lever of pressure to encourage a change.Big retailers like Costco (who historically have been solid on workers’ rights) are selling a large quantity of shrimp produced with Thai slave labor. Ask them to drop Thai shrimp—until their suppliers can prove it’s caught without slave labor in the supply chain.Costco has said they’re against forced labor in the supply chain, but what are they gonna do about it? The company’s responses look a little vague to me. -- source link
