Happy 90th birthday, Claes Oldenburg! Born January 28, 1929 in Stockholm, Sweden, Oldenburg moved to the United States in 1936 when his diplomat father was appointed Consul General of Sweden to Chicago. He became a naturalized citizen in 1953. He is best known for huge sculptures of everyday objects, many of which were made in collaboration with his wife and artistic partner, Coosje van Bruggen, including Cleveland’s beloved Free Stamp. We have two books about him in our collection, Claes Oldenburg : May 1974 - August 1976 and Claes Oldenburg by Barbara Rose. Ask a librarian to see anything in our special collections! -- source link
