my book isfinally here the extrachapter was wonderful -chef’s kiss-i wasactually surprised by the length, and i think it works very well as an ending! soeven if a sequel never happens, i won’t have any complaints at all haha.the highlightswere as usual, kouhei and taichi being silly dorks and enjoying themselves on their long-awaited trip to the sea. i love that we can see the fruits of their hurdles, bc they areactually COMMUNICATING now. they are using their words instead of keeping it all inside! i feel like a very proud parent /single manly tearand thischild! at first i was like omg a baby!taichi clone!? and then i was like PROTECalso i’m glad that kouhei and taichi got to hold hands so much, so casually and sopublicly. look: wholesome. my skin is clear and my crops are watered.some other stray thoughts not necessarily related to this vol, but more to the series as a whole:tbh, i did have some reservations about the hypothetical sequel… especially when i found out that the author wanted to have more “lovey-dovey” scenes. you see, my favourite volumeis actually volume 1. there is something about the vibe back then that wasjust… different… from the rest of the series. i personally think it’s because theauthor wasn’t yet thinking of the story as “BL” per se, just a story about twoguys with no labels constraining it. what i mean by that is… BL is a /genre/ with certain conventions to be followed and a certain target audience to please. and assuch, we can see hgk falling into some prescribed patterns as it progressed. the mostobvious one is taichi and kouhei’s size difference, which wasn’t as stark in thebeginning as in the later vols. there are also a bunch of other things where itjust felt to me like she was trying to shoehorn them into typical seme/ukeroles (idk whether it’s at her own discretion or under the advice of her editor). and so, over time, i developed a tiny niggling fear that the further she took their relationship, the more pronounced these stereotypes would get.but i think the extra chapter did allay some of that fear… in the sensethat i could still see the core of what drew me in to their relationship in the first place. i do hope that if there IS a sequel where their relationship getseven more explicit, she will not limit (*cough*) its progressionto BL tropes 100% (although i understand that it will be there to a certainextent bc That’s Just How It Is).thereseems to be a running gag in her recent doodles and stuff, which is thewhole “this person isn’t the gender that you thought they were” thing. it wasn’t a major plot pointin the extrachapter of limit 3 and was more of a “lol sillytaichi he’s so oblivious” thing again, but it does make me wonder if she plansto do something with yumi or touch on this topic in the hypothetical sequel. i just hope that if she does, whatever it is won’t turn out to be a total dumpster fire… -- source link
