peashooter85:The Savage Carbine/Light Rifle,Another competitor of the M1 carbine, submitted to the Army Ordnance Department during World War II, the Savage Carbine was a long recoil firearm based off the earlier Remington 8/81. Chambered for .30 Carbine, it fed from 5, 10, 20, and 50 round magazines. In firing tests the carbine performed admirably in areas of accuracy and functionality. However, the system was fragile, with a crack developing in the bolt carrier, and the floorplate having to be replaced halfway through testing. The design was also complicated, slow to disassemble and maintain, and difficult to mass produce. As a result, the M1 Carbine was chosen over the Savage Light Rifle. -- source link
