the-shadow-puppeteer:poptartsandbutter:myrandomstuffpage:Odd how the media slants these stories as heartwarming fodder, when all they really do is reinforce our need for universal medial insurance coverage for all. Do…like…you think diabetics need service animals for some reason? I’m sure there’s maybe some kind of use for them…but I’ve literally never, ever, seen or heard of any diabetic needing an animal to control their blood sugar. If this kid’s parents wanted a service animal for diabetes, then that’s them wanting what amounts to an extreme luxury for the kid to serve… dunno, some kind of purpose i guess. But you, somehow, think all tax payers should supply exorbitant over care for everyone. Do you really think that it’s the average citizens obligation to get service animals for every diabetic in the country? That’s like making sure everyone with a broken ankle gets a personal driver. How much do you think it would cost to make sure everyone with a flue gets a trained tissue monkey or every person with Asperger gets a happiness pony or some such nonsense? Whats the spending limit when it comes to an arthritic? Someone to transcribe all their words into typing because it’s a bit difficult for them that’s on call 24/7 could get a bit expensive when you have to get 50 million of them…but, you know, we need to make sure that everyone gets even the most contrived and unnecessary “medical treatments” possible for “free” because the magic money cave will just vomit those funds up.Some diabetics need service dogs because they are unable to tell when their blood sugar goes too high or low, which could be fatal. The dogs are trained to detect these highs and lows, especially when the person is sleeping. People with a broken ankle don’t need a personal driver to live. The situations are not comparable at all. This is not “contrived” or “unnecessary”, it’s literally to save lives. Please do some research. -- source link
